Kurdistan – country without borders lying in four other countries – invited us to its house and offered all it could. And šuej-šuej, or slowly-slowly, we became friends. We came to volunteer in Sulaymaniyah – city in the Iraqi part of Kurdistan – but we also travelled around the government oppressed Turkish Kurdistan. We got to know refugee and displaced families, walked through a city recovering from a genocide, stayed with the sheikh family of one of the oldest religions and found fingerprints of the war everywhere we went. At the same time, as we encountered the hospitality and kindness of the people, we felt hope.
