‘No be afraid, we are here just for security’ says a kind soldier in the centre of Tripoli; he studied engineering before joining the Lebanese army. I’m not afraid, not today, because I know that everyone in this city is human and violence would be inhumane. And so I walk the streets and alleys, dragging my huge lens, greeting everyone I can with ‘sabah al-khair’, good morning. And they smile back at me: ‘sabah an-noor’—morning full of light, and whatever it means figuratively, morning full of light it indeed is.
